History
In the centre of Cambridge is a 10 hectare common which is popular in summer for students and visitors alike to have picnics, play games and generally relax. The square is called Parker’s Piece and is named after Edward Parker a college cook who had a lease on the common. Parker’s Piece has a cricket pitch and pavilion named after Jack Hobbs, a famous cricketer who was born in Cambridge.
